ReDerb. Start very slowly

2025-02-23 08:50

#

Try and do stuff slowly. Still half asleep

Shower thought. Here’s why it makes no sense for me (or anyone else) to compare myself to others success or measure myself by the progress they make / effort they are able to put in.
It all boils down to, They’re not me and I’m not them.
Time, Effort, Intensity. My life, what i can do, how much energy I can put into doing it. These probably are in my control in the sense of how much I can give. But I need to realise that what I can give, varies. Other people can probably give more, because of two other factors. Luck and Privilege. And those are not in my control. So folks are not inherently better or superior than you or me.
So what I need to do, is give whatever I can, the mostest, while also being aware of all the other duties and responsibilities I have. And be aware that my life, my circumstances are different from others.
That gives me peace.

More expounding on the previous thought, on the effects of what I can give or pay with

No money, means giving time, which means stuff takes longer than other folks.

to speed it up, I can be more intense, which means giving up other things (that may be as, or more important.) Intensity also takes a toll on the body. (slipped discs at three different portions along my spine, have proven that to me 😂) So Intensity has a cost.

Which brings us back to money. That is the most fungible resource, which is ofcourse why the “rich” favour it. (and also why, when some “rich” new client demands something outrageous of me, I now tend to price them out of my life, by demanding they pay in the same currency as they demand of me. Time and intensity12)

So spend money when you can. And when you don’t have it, consider if whatever big thing you are attempting, is worth the time and sacrifice you are about to make. If not, temper them. Bind them with limited time, or lower intensity. Realise that everything has a cost.

The best things in life aren’t priceless. They are paid for with your time and attention. Spend them wisely.

#

Referring back to books to learn more about packages and such

Redid the rederb directory.

Eli Benderski’s post on creating a Go project layout with modules is very instructional and beyond awesome

Reviewed the week and created a plan.

One easy example, Urgent calls late at night, are met by me calling them early in the morning. Obviously something must have been that urgent, otherwise they wouldn’t have tried calling me at such an hour. ↩︎

I also realise that this is my privilege. A hard earned one, after twenty years in the business, at that. ↩︎

The book asks me to do a
go run .
to get my file to compile and run.
Go seems to having none of it.

go: go.mod file not found in current directory or any parent directory; see 'go help modules'

Some searching on the web, and I found setting the
GO111MODULE
environment variable to
auto
or
off
will do the trick. So …

export GO111MODULE='auto'

did indeed do the trick.

I’m not putting this in my
.bashrc
to make it persistent though. The Go folks must have had some reason to make this change, which I’m (currently) not aware of. Was it architectural? Security related? That is a web search for another day.

Right now the code compiles and I must be off to my next exercise.
