Goals + Recap

  • Yesterday was a doozy!
  • And stuff just worked today morning! I didn’t have to do anything at all! I had done everything correctly last night and then my tired brain was testing stuff with a typo in my commands. It also taught me that most stuff is easy. And I should be open to learning new stuff if it interests me. I stuck with Nginx out of inertia for far to long. HAProxy actually fits my mental model of a proxy / load balancer. I find its config easier and more intuitive. Should have switched long ago
  • Continue with doing MetalLB
  • Once that is done, do kanboard again
  • Begin by moving (lifting and shifting in popular parlance) Kanboard to the cluster
    • Cert will probably be needed
    • Learn how to configure an app with code
    • Figure out secrets, if there are any
    • Learn how to tunnel through and reverse proxy
    • Learn how to store data and back it up
  • Move Miniflux next, followed by Hedgedoc

  • Slow start today. Was trying to figure out what Metal LB meant by a pool and did it mean my DHCP pool (No. it does note)

  • Back to work
  • 2025-11-14 11:35: Giving up on MetalLB for now. Sticking to the inbuilt load balancer. Nothing’s quite clicking right and I don’t know where to start troubleshooting. Maybe I’ll give myself until lunch and then decide
  • 2025-11-14 11:37: Yea, no. Tearing down the cluster and bringing it back up with ServiceLB
  • 2025-11-14 12:56: Lunch.
  • 2025-11-14 13:21: Cleared the decks so I could work afternoon as well
  • 2025-11-14 15:36: Got sealed secrets installed. Trying to copy paste and modify these things myself now. Tea break. External DNS is next on the list

  • 2025-11-14 17:26: Decided not to do External DNS. Another one for the AWS project list. I want to retain control by some manual work. External DNS does not help or hinder in this regard. Better off without it for my personal use. Will come back to it, if needs change
  • 2025-11-14 18:01: Reading flux documentation
  • 2025-11-14 18:09: Switched to a video course
  • 2025-11-14 20:41: Going through the course makes me realise that Funky Penguin’s structure is maybe a little too strict for me. Will have to look into adapting it a bit to my liking
  • 2025-11-14 21:58: Making good progress with the course
  • 2025-11-14 22:57: Done. Calling it a night!
