Goals

  • Make progress on the book

2025-10-24 07:30

  • Hoping to get a head start on the day again
  • Learning about tests and automated testing of microservices today
  • 2025-10-24 08:32: Scaling up the fundamentals of Testing is still very fuzzy to me. I understand it from the point of view of unit tests and from the peak of testing the behaviour of the whole application. Mocking and everything intermediate is what I don’t quite get yet. Hope I understand as I write more code
  • The number of resources suggested, will definitely amount to years of reading!

  • Ok. I ate my testing brocoli
  • Now to figure out how to ship!
  • Putting it together also feels like drawing the rest of the fucking owl!
Basically tells me I need to do this over and over to get good at it
I thought I could learn all this and write holistically about a whole project I’d put together. Now it will more NM posts, as I learn the pieces and see how they fit
  • It does give me an idea of how microservices work though. Fast, consistent, reproducible, modular programming
  • Launched and tested the whole application, that the author generously provided with docker compose. More now after tea.

  • Back to work
  • Most stuff now presupposes the existence of a cluster, so is that a separate thing to do always? I assume clusters don’t change that often
  • 2025-10-24 13:15: Breaking for lunch. Will continue with the book today, since I think I’m at the end and I don’t want to rebuild and redo my Azure cluster again tomorrow

2025-10-24 13:40

  • Back to work
  • 2025-10-24 14:05: And we’re done! The end came faster than I expected
Monday onwards now I’ll start applying these lessons my raft of tiny services, so that I don’t have to worry about setting up my Hetzner VM ever again.

  • Brain seems to have stopped functioning. Calling it a night.
