I’m taking a tiny sabbatical from consulting and other stuff, to focus on sharpening my devops chops.
What better way than to move my motley collection of services to something that is managed in code?

Goals

  • Figure out what I want to do for the next three months to do the move

2025-08-12 13:00

  • Very distracted sort of day.
  • Got my new earphones set up
  • Got espanso working with some new expansions
  • Changed archetypes on the blog to remove some template links
  • Very little has gotten done. Taking it easy on myself, because first day. Be back after lunch.

  • Just cannot focus! Decided to do some busywork and then tea. Hopefully evening will be better

  • Try again!
  • Ok some clarity. I wanted Flatcar as my OS, but right now trying to do that along with my move, seems to be more than I can chew. So that’s an idea for another day. Or is it worth the effort? Think I’ll do a bit more research
  • Ok there’s a tutorial. Will try that and decide
  • They need a VM. Off to install a new one. BRB. Debian 13 VM, here we come!
  • 2025-08-12 18:08: Some yak shaving later, a debian vm is up. Now to get ssh working.
  • 2025-08-12 18:18: Done! Now to the tutorial
  • So while I am installing all the flatcar stuff, I’ve come up with a tentative plan of what I want to do, this month.
    • Health & Diet
    • My Devops Project
    • Writing on the blog
    • Learn Rust basics
    • My French Duolingo
  • And seeing, the way today has gone, I need to really put hard stops on my tasks or I’ll never get shit done
  • Speaking of hard stop, time for one. Will come back to this tomorrow.

  • Got Flatcar running locally. Yay!
